The company, who specializes in the design of enzymes through computer simulation, will travel to Boston to participate in the Richi Social Entrepreneurs program

Zymvol Biomodeling was selected as the most promising industrial startup of 2017 during the IQS Next Tech Demo Day, the country’s first acceleration program for industrial startups, organized in Barcelona by IQS Tech Factory, the center for entrepreneurship of IQS.

The jury composed by Rubén Bonet, CEO at Fractus; Ernest Lara, executive director at Richi Social Entrepreneurs; Alfons Cornella, founder at Infonomía; Irene León, Novartis Disease Area Leader Oncology Spain; Pablo Linz, co-founder at Immfly, Jordi Arias, director of Technology Transfer at mVenturesBcn; and Javier Marcipar, CEO at CIMNE Technología; selected Zymvol because of its innovative solution, capable of designing custom-made enzymes and screening protein variants for the industry, turning chemical processes in environmentally sustainable.

Smart Monkey, creators of an intelligent management system for logistics through artificial intelligence and self-learning algorithms; and Sense4Care, developers of Park-It, a new medical device to continuously monitor the motor status of patients with Parkinson’s Disease, were selected as runner-ups of IQS Next Tech and will get a direct access to Imagine IF! Accelerator, organized by Innovation Forum

Zymvol Biomodeling; the most promising industrial startup of IQS Next Tech 2017

Zymvol has created a solution capable of designing tailored enzymes and screening thousands of protein variants through computer simulation. Unlike other companies in this sector, the startup offers to chemical companies the opportunity to obtain customized enzymes for the production of their products. This allows them to find the right protein in a very short time, minimizing the economic costs of the process and making it environmentally sustainable.

So far, the chemical processes carried out by the industry to find the right protein are expensive and time consuming process that takes place in the laboratories.

Zymvol’s solution may represent a significant advance in different sectors of the chemical industry, for example, in detergent production companies, where enzymes are a basic component for their effectiveness. Through computer simulation, Zymvol finds the right protein for each application, improving its characteristics and turning traditional chemical processes to biochemical.

Zymvol, joins Richi Social Entrepreneurs Immersion Program in Boston

As result of being selected as best industrial startup, Zymvol will travel to Boston in October to participate in Richi Social Entrepreneurs, an all-paid* 3-week, deep-dive acceleration program by Richi Foundation.

The winning company will dive in Boston’s innovation ecosystem, having the opportunity to connect through training workshops and networking sessions with investors, key players and industry experts.

The country’s first industrial acceleration program closing event

IQS Tech Factory organized for the first time in Spain, IQS Next Tech, the country’s first industrial acceleration program. The program closed on the 20th of July with a Demo Day that brought together more than 150 people at the Col·legi d’Enginyers Graduats and Enginyers Industrials Tècnics de Barcelona.

IQS Next Tech’s closing event welcomed the presentations of the 10 participating startups, and keynote speeches of two leading players in the current entrepreneurial ecosystem. Pere Condom-Vilà, director of Catalunya Emprèn at Generalitat de Catalunya, who was in charge of offering the inaugural speech, analyzing the entrepreneurship current situation in Catalonia. Francesco Ferro, CEO at PAL Robotics, a company specializes in humanoid robotics, who reviewed new trends in the area in his talk: «The past, the present and the future of robotics».

During the previous weeks, the participating companies accelerated their projects in 11 sessions led by industry experts and mentors, focused on the most important areas of a startup development. IQS Tech Factory will continue supporting all projects in order to bring their solutions to market.
