FAQ

Who owns the rights to the enzyme found by Zymvol’s Enzyme Search Services?

In case of Enzyme search, Zymvol does not claim any rights to the enzymes identified from various databases. Some enzymes may be free available, some might be already protected.

What is Zymvol’s IP policy in case of In silico Design of new enzymes?

We offer our clients individually agreed options of exclusive and non-exclusive IP rights.

What type of reactions can be worked on at Zymvol?

Zymvol’s technology does not have any limits concerning the type of chemical reactions. We already demonstrated our technology on more than 10 different reaction types! For detailed information, please visit our Expertise section.

Does Zymvol offer physical enzymes?

Zymvol does not have its own wet lab capacities. But through our network with external partners, we offer complete services packages including enzyme samples, validation tests and others.

What makes Zymvol’s services unique compared to other vendors?

No other company in the world is combining full protein dynamics (backbone and side chains) with explicit water representation, quantum mechanics and experimental data! This technology provides our client an extremely high success rate >75% in enzyme discovery and design campaigns. For detailed information, please visit our Technology section.

What are the advantages of working with Zymvol?

Zymvol’s technology enables us to provide enzyme search and in silico design services within a couple of weeks, yet with an extremely high success rate! Our clients benefit from our customer friendly IP policy, complete service packages and an easy workflow between our client’s and our technical specialists. For detailed information, please visit our Why Zymvol section.

How many mutations per enzyme variant does Zymvol analyze?

In our In Silico Design campaigns we calculate 1 – 5 mutations per variant.

Are all mutations located in the active site of the enzyme?

No. For our mutations, we also select positions at the access to the active site, at the second sphere and even long range positions that might influence the enzymatic reaction.

How many variants of an enzyme do you deliver?

Per evolution round we provide our clients with 90 variants. Those 90 variants will be ranked according to the desired properties.

Can you provide publications about Zymvol’s technology?

Yes. We have an updated publication list.

Where are Zymvol’s simulations run?

Zymvol uses in-house IT infrastructure as well as cloud computing for its simulations and selects the best suitable option on a case by case basis in order to address client need for costs, speed and security.

What kind of data does Zymvol need to run a simulation?

The minimum information we need is the desired chemical reaction, including substrate, desired product and reaction conditions. For In Silico Design, amino acid sequence of a reference enzyme would be necessary as well.

What enzyme properties can be improved by Zymvol’s technology?

With our simulations, we can optimize enzyme activity, selectivity, specificity, thermal & pH stability and tolerance to complex matrices.

Can Zymvol simulate solvents other than water?

Yes. We simulate complex matrices like detergents or organic solutions with our technology.

Can Zymvol predict the quantitative extent of improvements of conversion parameters?

We predict the qualitative nature of improvements of a biocatalytic reaction only. There is no option to estimate the value of reaction parameter.

Are enzymes GMOs?

Not at all! Enzymes are molecules, NOT living organisms! They cannot comply any of the vital functions a living organism does. They CAN'T reproduce. They CAN'T nurture. They CAN'T grow. They CAN'T develop. Enzymes are PROTEINS, a type of macromolecules that naturally exist in living organisms and catalyze chemical reactions (mostly related with organism’s metabolism).

What’s the first step for working with ZYMVOL? What guarantees do I get?

By company policy, ZYMVOL will sign a Confidential Disclosure Agreement(CDA) or Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) with you even before handing out a quote for the service. This way, we guarantee client data security during the whole process.

How does ZYMVOL handle my data?

ZYMVOL is GDPR compliant, which means it handles its clients’ data with the maximum security standards determined by law.

And what about IP rights?

IP Rights are very personalized. They are set according to each clients’ specific case and taking into account what has been negotiated beforehand.

Who’s behind each contract?

ZYMVOL has a team of internal and external legal advisors that take care of contracts. Our Head of Legal is Rosa Abadie, with more than 15 years of experience in practice.
